3. Use and Manufacturing
3.1 Definition
ChEBI: The acetate ester of hexan-1-ol.
3.2 Description
Hexyl acetate has a pleasant fruity, apple, cherry, pear, floral odor and bittersweet taste suggestive of pear. Hexyl Acetate is a liquid with asweet-fruity, pear-like odor. It is present in a number of fruits and alcoholic beveragesand is used in fruit aroma compositions. clear colorless to pale yellowish liquidChEBI: The acetate ester of hexan-1-ol.Hexyl acetate has a pleasant fruity odor and bittersweet tastesuggestive of pear. 3.3 Produe Method
n-Hexyl acetate is prepared from n-hexyl alcohol and excessacetic anhydride or with an excess of acetic acid andconcentrated sulfuric acid . Its is also prepared fromprimary and sec-hexyl alcohols . It is produced by Aldrich Chemical Corp., Milwaukee, WI,and Penta Manufacturing Co., Fairfield, NJ .
3.4 Usage
Hexyl Acetate is a flavouring agent due to its fruity odor and it is naturally present in many fruits and alcoholic beverages.

4.2 Fire Hazard
Special Hazards of Combustion Products: Vapor may travel considerable distance to a source of ignition and flash back. Container explosion may occur under fire conditions. Forms explosive mixtures in air. Hexyl acetate Preparation Products And Raw materials Preparation Products
4.3 Other Preventative Measures
SRP: The scientific literature for the use of contact lenses in industry is conflicting. The benefit or detrimental effects of wearing contact lenses depend not only upon the substance, but also on factors including the form of the substance, characteristics and duration of the exposure, the uses of other eye protection equipment, and the hygiene of the lenses. However, there may be individual substances whose irritating or corrosive properties are such that the wearing of contact lenses would be harmful to the eye. In those specific cases, contact lenses should not be worn. In any event, the usual eye protection equipment should be worn even when contact lenses are in place.
If material not on fire and not involved in fire: keep sparks, flames, and other sources of ignition away. Keep material out of water sources and sewers. Build dikes to contain flow as necessary. Use water spray to knock-down vapors.
Avoid breathing vapors. Keep upwind. Do not handle broken packages unless wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Wash away any material which may have contacted the body with copious amounts of water or soap and water.
If material leaking (not on fire) consider evacuation from downwind area based on amount of material spilled, location and weather conditions. /hexyl acetate, flammable liquid, n.o.s./
4.4 DisposalMethods
SRP: At the time of review, criteria for land treatment or burial (sanitary landfill) disposal practices are subject to significant revision. Prior to implementing land disposal of waste residue (including waste sludge), consult with environmental regulatory agencies for guidance on acceptable disposal practices.
4.5 Fire Fighting Procedures
Do not extinguish fire unless flow can be stopped or safely confined. Use water in flooding quantities as fog. Solid streams of water may be ineffective. Cool all affected containers with flooding quantities of water. Apply water from as far a distance as possible. Use foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.
