Melanotan II, with the chemical formula C50H69N15O9, has the CAS number 121062-08-6. It is a synthetic peptide that is used for tanning of the skin. Melanotan II appears as a white to off-white powder with no distinct odor. Its basic structure consists of a sequence of amino acids attached to a peptide backbone. This compound is soluble in water. Safety information regarding Melanotan II is limited, and caution should be exercised when using this chemical. It is important to follow proper dosage guidelines and consult with a healthcare professional.
Applicable Fields
Tanning: Melanotan II is primarily used for its tanning properties. It stimulates the production of melanin in the skin, resulting in a darker complexion. The mechanism of action involves binding to melanocortin receptors in the skin, which triggers the production of melanin.
Research: Melanotan II is also used in research settings to study its effects on various physiological processes. It has been investigated for its potential role in treating sexual dysfunction, obesity, and other conditions. The mechanism of action in these contexts is still being studied.
Storage
Conditions: Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Melanotan (MT)-II is a potent non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist with high affinity for MC1, MC3, MC4, and MC5 receptor subtypes which are involved in the regulation of a number of physiological systems such as the pigmentary system, energy homoeostasis, sexual functioning, the immune system, inflammation, and the cardiovascular system.
Melanotan (MT)-II exerts a dose-dependent inducer activity on erection by eliciting erectile events and shortening latency of the first erectile event to occur. Erectile responses elicited by cavernous nerve stimulation are increased after i.v. melanotan (MT)-II (1 mg/kg), thereby exerting facilitator effect on erection. Melanotan (MT)-II promotes peripheral nerve regeneration and has neuroprotective properties in the rat. Melanotan (MT)-II significantly enhances the recovery of sensory function following a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve in the rat at a dose of 20 μg/kg per 48 h, s.c., but not at a dose of 2 or 50 μg/kg. Melanotan (MT)-II is a potent initiator of penile erection in men with erectile dysfunction. Melanotan (MT)-II reduces food intake and body weight and invokes thermogenic responses in a mouse model.
